Base Habits Coaching

You cannot outwork a bad diet, and every diet with a name is over-hyped.

What I Actually Believe

Weight change comes down to three things: how much you eat, whether you actually know how much you eat, and what your body does over time with your food intake.

Programs with names give you a set of rules because it fits the label of that diet. I teach you the mechanism behind weight loss, then we make changes based on your data instead of a guess. Learn the mechanism, track intake and weight, I analyze your data, then we check in to see how you are feeling and make changes as needed.

We Start With A Call, Before Anything Changes

Nothing starts until you understand why you're doing it.

Before day one, we sit down for about thirty minutes. I walk you through the plan and the reasoning behind it, and cover the basics of how food and training affect your body. We talk about what you actually like to eat and what your week actually looks like. A plan you hate is a plan you quit. You leave that call with a clear direction forward. I follow up afterward with a written recap of the plan, so you have something to reference beyond what you remember from the call.

The First Two Weeks: No Gym, Just the Base Habits

For the first two weeks, you will not train.

Not a workout, not a run. Three things only:

Weigh yourself every morning and log it
Hit your calorie target
Hit your step goal

Those two weeks give us your real numbers instead of a formula's estimate. We watch your actual rate of change and adjust from there. Building the habit is the point, and habits are easier to build when they are the only thing you are asked to do. Adding the gym on top of a diet you have not settled into is how people burn out in month one.

What This Costs You In Time

Less than you're expecting, and it gets faster every week.

Tracking your food

The first few days are the slowest, because you are weighing things and looking them up for the first time. After that it drops off fast. The more consistent your meals are, the faster it goes. Once you are prepping food, it becomes close to automatic. The goal is to plan the meals days in advance so the prepped meal becomes the path of least resistance.

Getting your steps

You are probably already closer to your step goal than you think. Usually the gap is a couple of twenty minute walks a day. Most people can get 1000 steps in 10 minutes.

The gym, once you get there

This one sits on its own because it is not part of the first two weeks and it is not required. When you do add it, you are looking at a couple of hours across the whole week. You do not need to go every day, and you do not need to wreck yourself in the gym.

Why I Will Push You Toward Lifting

You can get real results with food and steps alone, but lifting makes the result stick.

Here is why I still want you there eventually. When you lose weight, some of what comes off is muscle. Muscle keeps you strong, keeps you functional as you get older, and decides how you actually look at a lower weight. Resistance training tells your body to hold onto it. It also makes the result far easier to keep.

I will always steer you in that direction because it is the better outcome. How far you take it is your call. It is not a condition of working with me.

Weekly Check-Ins

Once a week we get on a call or meet in person and go through your numbers together.

The individual days are not what matters as much as the average of the whole week. We go over your weight trend, your average calories, your average steps for the week. We also talk about how the food intake felt, whether you were hungry, stressed, or satisfied, and what that tells us. Then I will talk to you about what adjustments you can make.

Between Check-Ins

You can reach out any time.

A question in the grocery store, a menu you are staring at, a weekend that got away from you. You do not have to wait until the next check-in.

What You Want is Up To You

Some people want the system explained. Some people want to be told what to do. Both work. It is up to you.

Here is what I can help with, and how much of it you want is up to you:

A meal structure with exactly what to eat
A training plan with exactly what to do
The reasoning behind your calories and macros
The reasoning behind your training
In-person training help
Suggested apps to track calories and manage training programs
A custom spreadsheet that tracks your calories, steps, and workouts, calculates your weekly average, and shows your progress in graphs

Most people land somewhere in the middle and drift toward learning the mechanism over time.

The Goal Is That You Stop Needing Me

Everything I give you is built to be learned, not just followed.

I keep a knowledge base with videos explaining topics on my website that starts with the basics and goes as deep as you care to go. You do not have to read a single page of it to get results. The plan works whether or not you understand the theory. But it is there, and the people who read it end up being the ones their friends and family start asking for advice.
